Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone!

Many people read my work expecting a mass of intriguing crime scenes, that almost tip the scale when it comes to blood and gore! I love creating these works, but I recently asked myself if this was the only type of writing I could accomplish?
Now, several weeks later, I realize, if I intend to become a author worth his salt, I need to expand my horizons and work on material which propels me from my little comfort zone I have established. I have started this process with research from a novel coming in 2014, entitled, Saviour from the Grave. This story you might classify as paranormal/horror, which may not seem to break my stronghold away from the bloodlust, but it does start me in another direction and hopefully more fans are receptive to this. I promise you, the serial killer tales will still be there, but there will also be some, that just might touch your heart. (Yes, just a little hallmark.) I always envisioned my writing having multiple phases, and within each phase comes new challenges. Each will be answered in due time and I hope all of you stay around to watch! Well, time to finish the second installment of Cupid’s Kill, which will knock your socks off. Hehe!

Until next time…remember, death is only a click away!

Meet Me Tomorrow at The Great Iowa Book Event

Brandon Thornley unzipped his jacket and removed the GPS device. Following the frost-covered trail, he reached the wooded sanctuary that was home to the tools of his real trade. He thought he could give it up and live the life of an honest man, but the hunger for killing was too strong and couldn’t be masked any longer. He forced himself through the dense tree branches, barely feeling their backlash on his exposed face and neck. A few steps further, he stopped in front of a large pine tree. The computer-generated voice from the GPS, which indicated he had reached his destination, startled him.

So tomorrow, what is your destination? If you’re in the Des Moines area, put the Southridge Mall on your GPS, and come meet me and many other great authors at The Great Iowa Book Event. From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., we will be talking with readers and signing books. And if you haven’t picked up your copy of 3:16 yet, there will be plenty on hand. Look foward to seeing you there!

“Forsaken” A Bloody Taste… for All of You!

The man placed the blade against his muscled chest;
with one quick motion, a cascade of crimson stained the steel intruder. Pain
never really meant much to him. It was actually an act of realization if anything. The new scar would join the others, in celebration of his next
conquest. His upper torso was riddled with the reminders of all his wonderful
victims. Today, while he was involved in his daily dose of fitness at Hensen’s Gym, he had acquired an
unlikely target. Her name was Shanna Wilks. A tall toned redhead; who
instructed the early bird yoga class. He was amazed by her blemish—free pearl
skin. She reminded him of a ceramic doll, sitting on the shelf of an exquisite
antique shop, more so, than something
living.

Well, Shanna wouldn’t be that too much longer. He reached into his pocket removing a
metallic holder. Running his fingers along the ridges in the metal always
comforted him. This was his ritual. The monogrammed letters stared back at him, beckoning him to withdraw the
contents. The man removed a blank business card from it, careful not to drip
blood on it prematurely. The smooth texture of the paper was just perfect for
capturing each stroke, as he positioned the knife at such an angle, none of the
precious fluid was wasted.  He glanced in the rearview mirror and smiled. Almost time. The sound of chimes filled
the car’s interior. He flipped open the console, and stared at the screen.
“Shit, what now?” Taking a deep breath, he answered the annoyance. “Detective
Creighton speaking.”

“Sir, sorry… I know it’s your day off, but we have
something you need to see,” a soft voice apologized.

“Lydia, what’s going on?”

“It’s him again sir. He left us another calling card.”

Must be talking about Jessica. Ah,
her blood was so sweet
. “Where?” He playfully used his finger as a
pen, as he scribbled in mid-air. He knew
exactly where
.

Lydia’s
voice cracked. “2131 Providence Ave. Officer Davis and Beltz have the scene
secured.”

I’m sure. “10-4,
tell them I will be there in twenty. Clear on the other side of town,” he lied.

“Sure thing, sir.”

He slammed the phone shut. Why does everyone
fuck with my time off
? Glaring at the digital display of his watch, a
crooked smile passed his lips. No
worries, this won’t take long
. He ran his thumb along the blade, closing
his eyes, as he captured the sweet life juice with his lips. Ah, better than the last. Detective
Creighton once again repositioned the glistening blade against the thin
cardboard, this time finishing his
signature free from interruption. Perfect,
simply perfect
!

Creighton gently blew on the card, not
wanting his creativity to be ruined by the natural way blood has the tendency
to flow. Satisfied with his work, Creighton stepped from the dark unmarked
cruiser. He weaved throughout a cluster of bushes and foliage, until reaching
his destination. Strapped between two saplings, was the torn body of a young
woman. The fresh carcass had already begun to attract the creatures of nature,
as they clawed through the flesh, taking prize possessions from their latest
meal. Creighton smelled the air, relishing the moment. Pamela Abens had been way too easy. The twenty-something
brunette simpleton, was a local whore, the town of Cutter’s Pass would not
miss. Creighton had taken advantage of that fact; watching her get wasted in
these woods on several occasions, and barely making it back to town. She had
done it again tonight, but this time she
was his. There would be no more  apologies to her distraught parents for the gross error of judgment. Now, the
earth would swallow her with welcome arms, and be a part of her for eternity.
Creighton knelt down and placed the card just below where her feet were
dangling. Always the same place, always

Crieghton glanced at his watch. Shit, gotta go! It was ironic to say the
least. Patrolmen waiting for him at
the Providence location had no idea;
a murderer was coming to take over their crime scene. Quite ironic indeed…

C.A. Kunze Interviews Me for the July Blog Hop!

Posted in A Writer's Life, General Information, Get To Know The Characters!, Personal Appearances with tags , , , on 07-22-2011 by jeffreymartinsnovels
It’s our
third post for the Indie Author Blog Hop, and do we have a treat for you all today! We had the pleasure of chatting with Author Jeffrey Martin on the blog about himself, his book, and we even got him to spill some tea (gossip/details). But first, we need to take care of some business, and present you with a little blurb for Jeffrey Martin’s thriller novel 3:16

For most people, an experience with social networking helps them connect with new acquaintances and bridge the gap between long-lost friends. But one man has adopted its resources to fulfill a more sinister agenda.

Brandon Thornley uses the database to search for potential victims as he feeds his thirst for blood. What Brandon doesn’t realize is that someone has accepted his request…and this person is even more ruthless than him.

New Haven Police Detective Patrick Morgan is assigned to investigate a string of ritualistic murders, which leads him to discover that the killer has left behind something valuable.Armed with the evidence he needs to bring a madman to justice, Detective Morgan sets his sights on his target. Unfortunately for him, he’s not the only one, and his competition will do anything to ensure he fails.

And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for…our interview with Author Jeffrey Martin.

1. In seven words or less, how would you describe your novel 3:16?

Social Networking and serial killer collide!

2. What are you currently working on now?

I’m working on three projects right now. The first, is a novella titled, Cupid’s Kill. I have brought back my two protagonists from Deadly Demented, Brian Jeffers and Kelli Jordan, and this time they try to catch a serial killer who extracts the human heart of his victims, replacing it with something you won’t believe…. Hehe.

The next is a digital novella, author collaboration with Giovanni Gelati titled, Forsaken. It’s about a serial killer, who leaves a unique calling card at the feet of all of his victims. A calling card written in blood!

My third project is my fourth novel, Weaving Evil. A female serial killer utilizes the poisonous toxins of the Brown, Recluse, Black Widow, and many other dangerous arachnid to take revenge on her male victims.

3. Where did your draw your inspiration for your story 3:16?

I watch how social networking has become the kool-aid for today’s trendy, and if you could add a serial killer utilizing it for his own personal pleasure, it would be very intriguing indeed.

4. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?

I spend a great deal of free time, on a rigorous physical fitness routine, and enjoy the adrenalin I get from that, to start my creative juices.

5. What writer(s) has been a big influence on you and your writing?
There are two authors in particular, whom I attribute my interest in pursuing the writing field. The first is, John Saul. I remember reading his books in high school, and the teenage protagonist was perfect for me. Mixing in horror and suspense was something I believe he did with perfection. Plus, being a teenager myself, I could truly identify with his main character. (No, I didn’t kill any adult in a horrific manner… lol). The second author is John Sandford. I read his books, while I was in the Marine Corps and the Lucas Davenport series was one of the best I have ever experienced. Using a Midwest Law Enforcement official hit close to home, because I was from there, and it was easy to identify with the places he mentions in his work. To this day, I think Lucas Davenport is out there, catching evil-doers and running his software company…

6. What element of your story did you enjoy writing the most and why?

I enjoyed incorporating the true meaning to the 3:16 title, and creating another subplot, that really made the book what it is.

7. Do you have anything in common with your main character?

I think Brian Jeffers from my first two novels, is a pretty accurate account of who I am, and what makes me tick. I put a great deal of energy into him, and it seems, most people enjoy him as a featured protagonist.

8. If you could have a paranormal power or be any type of creature, what would it be?

I would like to have ESP. The ability to see the future, and be able to make changes accordingly. Boy, do I have a good
paranormal story in mind for next year.

9. What is your favorite book that has been made into a movie?

The Lovely Bones would have to be favorite. The casting for the appropriate parts were outstanding. The female lead playing Susie Salmon made the movie what it was. A very great book, turned into a wonderful heart-touching film.
